i've been holding this in...

oh my gosh i have been waiting for you to get here!
LOOK AT WHAT I MADE!!!!!! I MADE THIS APRON!!!!! ARE YOU EXCITED????
whew. i feel better. i've been holding that in for two days.

my friend, stormy, had a book of crafts you could do with 1 yard of fabric (i'm sorry i don't have the title) and we picked this cottage apron to make in 1 day. it would have worked, except in all sewing endeavors i end up pricking myself, cursing like a sailor, and crying because the machine won't work or because i have to pull out a seam and i hate that so very, very much. sounds like a good 'ol time, right?
so now you know what you're in for if i ever invite you over for a sewing party.
i started this apron back when we had our girls' weekend and all i had left to do was shorten the neck strap and sew on the waist straps. and it took me a month and a half to get around to it.
so i finished it two nights ago after reading a blog that had 191 free apron patterns and i nearly wet myself. then thought, "i can't do another apron until i finish the last one."
--now let's clarify here. by "i can't do another apron," i actually mean, "i can't sew a straight line without stormy there telling me how to do it." so don't be jealous of my mad sewing skills because...in actuality...i stink at it.
but you wouldn't know it from this handy-dandy awesome apron, wouldya?
rock-on, faux seamstresses, rock on.

mary poppins, a transvestite, and free range chicken

this is amanda and stormy at the cove for lunch. we were college roommates a long, long time ago. and they survived. this is our first attempt at taking a great picture. fail.

last weekend we went to see mary poppins. it was amazing! i found myself saying, "wait. can they repeat that? how did they DO it?!"

second attempt at taking a great picture. again, fail. but apparently something got funnier.

after the show, we wanted to get some dessert and decided to go to Lulu's...a 24 hour diner with world famous chicken fried steak, a three POUND cinnamon roll, and really yummy pie. across from us sat a transvestite who was rockin' a tina turner wig. the food was delicious and the sound track was hilarious, being a mix of "man in the mirror" and celine dion songs.

the next day we went out and about and ended up eating at the cove, an interesting combination of washateria, car wash, and eatery. their food is all organic so i had the yummy free range chicken salad sandwich, which rocked my face off. yum! they also have cream soda that will knock your socks off.
finally. i'd like to say third time's a charm, but let's be honest. --i took 6 of these photos.

girls weekend

sooner than promised, these are the pics from my girls' weekend.

last weekend, i went to visit my friend stormatha, that's what i call her, to hang out and enjoy some relaxation time.

our friend lauren drove down the next day. lovely lovely girl time. i realized half-way there that i had not been away for a fun trip since before we ever had kids. i went to a conference once overnight, but that's not the same.

here's a pic of the place where we stayed. storm is housesitting and so we got to enjoy a beach vacation FO' FREE.
the people who own the place are currently building a house so we enjoyed the smaller quarters out back, complete with a banjo!

we thought this was interesting. whoever wrote this was not overly dramatic. none of that "i love jeff" nonsense. watch your back, jeff.

my favorite part of the weekend was reading trivial pursuit cards to each other while eating yummy friend shrimp and friend okra. (those are the two most important food groups).

storm and i had to walk the dog everyday at the beach. whatcha gonna do? life is hard. walking at the beach, daily, in the breeze, enjoying seagulls (as much as one can) and talking about the creepy old hotel that would be less creepy once remodeled. good times. who could ask for anything more?

after dinner we watched "whip it" which makes me happy. anytime you pair a coming-of-age story with girls being athletic and tough, it rocks my face off.

we stumbled upon a yummy treat by snyder's of hanover. it's pretzel bits that are honey mustard and onion flavored. delicioso!

i actually got some sun, which means my chicken-fleshy-looking legs are less chicken-fleshy-looking.

apparently this poor person lost their shoes and had to endure sharp oyster shells. can you not read the sign? we think it might have been a leprechaun. look at those buckles.

i like this. crabs are much more threatening with teeth. grrrr.

i have no idea who this person in the corner is. -some strange woman. ;)

we had trouble getting a good picture of all of us. you should be appreciative of the fact that i edited these photos and only put up the ones where our eyes are open and not crossed.

here's us. lauren, storm, and myself. now let's put our feet up and relax a bit more.

aaaahhhh

girls weekend coming up
